Project X Records was conceived and birthed in Chicago, Illinois in 1995 by President and CEO, a then 22 year old Jesse Wordlaw with one very clear mission: to provide the entertainment industry with a longevity of quality music and artists.
I didn't just one day decide to up and start a record label, music has always been a very important part of my life. I am the youngest in a family of eight kids and you always heard music somewhere in the house. We had a piano and an organ growing up, several of my brothers and sisters took lessons. Two of my other brothers played the bass and violin. In addition to all that, you had me going around banging on everything in sight until I was six and got my first set of drums. I always knew that music would play a big roll in whatever I decided to do as a career.
Taking a page from it's former neighbor, the early era of Motown, Jesse has purposely taken the time he felt was necessary to nurture and cultivate every aspect of Project X Records. There is definitely a standard of excellence to measure up to, set by not only Berry Gordy and Motown, but also the present masters Russell Simmons and Sean P.Diddy Combs. " I want to provide the same vibe with the label that I see in peoples eyes when an old song from back in the day (I mean before I was born) is played and everyone not only knows the history of the song, but the artist and the label. That label has done their job. That is a quality Record label to me and that 's how I want people to react when they hear Project X Records songs."
With an array of Artists on its roster as diverse in their styles as their music, Project X Records has already taken the worldwide underground and college radio waves by storm with the release of the E.P. What If…by female rapper A'sista, and promising even more with the release of CD's from other up and coming label artists rappers Hethon, Ter-rah, and R&B artists smooth voiced Vincent Holbrook and sultry Wendy Brickhouse .
